The Parish Neighbourhood Watch Scheme was started in 1992 after all houses were contacted by the Parish Council to assess support and now covers 345 houses in the Parish. The scheme was set up by the Police with the help of nearly 50 residents who offered to help in the organisation. Jane Ward is General Co-ordinator and Alison Lloyd-Williams is Deputy Co-ordinator. There are currently 7 Area Co-ordinators who look after various areas of the Parish, and there are vacancies for a further two co-ordinators to cover the Central and the Far Eastern areas. If you live in one of these areas of the village and feel you can contribute, please contact Jane Ward (733947). Co-ordinators: Ken Alred (Capernwray), Ray Garlick (North Eastern), Alison Harper (Southern), Bev Carling (Western), Tony Wells (Kirklands), Paul Witherington (Northern) and Sandra Klijn-Passant (Eastern). The co-ordinators work through a network of contacts, each having about 10 houses on their 'patch'. The Over Kellet View, the monthly village magazine, contains a Neighbourhood Watch section which reports on any relevant crimes and crime trends in the area. In addition, urgent messages and warnings are, whenever necessary, put on the village notice boards.
