Opened by Geraldine Smith MP
The brand new, eagerly awaited community playground has now been opened in the village on the Wilsons Endowed School field. A brilliant sunny Saturday afternoon's fun was had by everyone at the opening of this superb new facility. The event was very well attended, with crowds larger than most of us are used to seeing congregated in Over Kellet! |

Blessed by blue skies and burning sunshine the afternoon started with a Fancy Dress parade followed at 1.30pm by the official opening by Geraldine Smith M.P. |

Immediately following the official opening the shiny brand new playground equipment was swamped by a screaming mass of youngsters who had patiently waited for the ceremonies to finish before they were allowed to play. Various attractions were on offer including a bouncy castle, barbeque, cream teas, face painting, pony rides, welly throwing, and the Police and Fire Brigade. |

The main highlight of the afternoon for most was the Sponge Throwing competition at 3.30pm. The Vicar, Rev. Ken Clapham and Mrs. Jo Williams, Head Teacher of Wilsons Endowed School gamely agreed to take part. They were popular targets for the crowd of eager cheering school children who enthusiastically took their turns to ensure that the pair both went home drenched and bedraggled, egged on by the incorrigible Mr. David Hardie! |

Grateful thanks from all in the village go to the members of Over Kellet Community Playground Group who made it all happen, and to the people who provided the much needed support to enable this project to reach fruition:
