The Over Kellet Women's Institute is a group of ladies who get together once a month for an evening of entertainment, education and fun. In addition, we hold an annual fund raising coffee morning and also try to arrange visits to local places of interest.

We are well represented in all kinds of village activities, and are happy to join with other village organisations, who ask our help, often in a catering capacity.

We take part in both County and National WI events and are part of the local Keer Valley Group, whose other members are Nether Kellet WI, Bolton le Sands WI and Warton Crag WI.

Over Kellet WI 1937 - 2017

2017 was a special year for Over Kellet Womens Institute as the 80th Anniversary was celebrated with a special Summer Supper at our July meeting.

We were able to travel the world with our speakers transporting us from Wales to St. Kilda, then on to Tibet and North Korea.  We also had speakers who encouraged us to try different crafts, and some who came and gave us an insight into local charitable groups, who we supported during the year.

Our local Lengthsman Mike Ashton came and spoke to us about his adventures in volunteering for the Blood Bikers, who deliver blood and other medical products quickly and efficiently in emergencies. He even brought his Supersized Motor Bike into the Village Hall, which impressed us all, especially our President, Christine Bolton, who is seen in the photo below astride it, surrounded by members of the Institute and Mike Ashton:-

President Christine also decided that she wanted to mark this Anniversary Year by making 80 Twizzle Muffs for dementia patients. She excelled herself by easily passing her target, and the muffs have been placed in Hospitals, Nursing and Residential Homes, some far beyond the Lancaster area, where they are now being put to good use.

Here is a very colourful display of some of the muffs:-

The year was completed by a Christmas display in a window of St. Cuthberts Church, Over Kellet, which depicted in Christmas card form, all the activities that the Institute has been involved with over the last 80 Christmases and years.
